Accelerated Reading Program (ARP)
As part of the 7th grade Language Arts classes, students are required to read one book each marking period that is part of the ARP system. The test scores taken on the library computer system will be part of the grade students earn each marking period. To ensure that each student is reading within his or her comfort zone, there is an initial reading level assessment given. This is the STAR computer test.
After students have finished reading their book, they may take the ARP test immediately.

Class Requirements
For class, you are required to earn a minimum of 6 points per marking period. This will allow you to earn the 25 additional points required for the 7th grade ARP auction. You are welcome to read more than 6 points if you would like! Overall, you must have 105 points (25 points MUST be from this year) and an 80% average on all the tests in order to be invited to the auction.
How to get to 6 points:
- Read one book worth 6 points and earn all the points on the test
- Read one book worth more than 6 points and miss a few questions
- Read several books and take several tests that get you up to 6 points for the marking period
What to read:
- You are welcome to read anything you like; however, I encourage you to read books that are at least 3 points, as these tend to be interesting enough for 7th grade.
- If you'd like to read a book that's less than 3 points, just check with me first - I almost always approve them!
- If it looks like you are struggling to find books appropriate for your level, you and I will have a chat to get you on the right track.
What to do after you finish reading:
- Take the test! No need to print it out for me - I can see your point totals on my computer.
- For ONE book you have taken a test on each marking period, you will do a book "Sales Pitch" on Flipgrid
- Give a brief summary of the book (no spoilers!)
- Tell us if you liked it or not, and why!
- Tell us what group of people you think might enjoy this book.
- Take a look at other students' Sales Pitches to get ideas for books to read in the future!

ARP Grading Criteria
You will be graded on two things each marking period:
1. Did you earn 6 points? If you did, you will get a 20/20 in my class. If you don't earn 6 points, you'll be graded as follows:
Tests taken average between 71% and 100% - 18 points
Tests taken average between 41% and 70% - 15 points
Tests taken average between 21% and 40% - 10 points
Tests taken average less than 20% - 5 points
Didn't take a test at all - 0 points
If you took a test but did not earn any points, you will receive some credit for your attempt. This means it is always worth it to at least try.
2. Did you do your Sales Pitch? If you did, and you followed the directions, you'll get a 20/20 for that, too! The directions (and a sample video) can be found on flipgrid each marking period.

How do I know how many points my book is worth?
You are always welcome to ask Mrs. Nomie, the school librarian, if your book is part of the ARP program OR you can visit this website: http://www.arbookfind.com/UserType.aspx
